Built in 1941 on land purchased by the African-American community, Douglass High School provided vital secondary education during segregation. Now listed on the Virginia and National Registers of Historic Places, the school was recently renovated under the leadership of the Douglass High School Commemorative Committee. The updated facility features displays, artwork, kiosks, and oral histories that preserve and share its legacy.
Summit Construction was proud to be part of this meaningful project. Our scope of work included cold-formed metal framing, expansion control, rough carpentry, exterior gypsum sheathing, weather barriers, and thermal insulation. We also installed doors, frames and hardware, access doors, gypsum drywall, acoustical ceilings, and acoustic wall treatments to support the modernization of this historic space.
